Smoke & Ash

Finalist Aug07 Nature. This is a layer of smoke from the Zaca fire overhanging the city of Santa Barbara on this particular day. While providing dramatic colors for a Seascape it also creates more negative drama at the source. This was taken from Butterfly Beach in the Montecito area to the South of Santa Barbara. F8, 1/160, ISO 100, 40mm (17-40 Canon Wide Angle) 8/7/2007 @ 7:25pm. (Nature-Aug07)

Thanks so much Cyn, Nick & Jeff for your wonderful comments and support. This fire was completely contained in early September after burning almost 250,000 acres over a 2 month period. No lives were lost. However, there were 46 reported injuries mostly to the heroic fire figher's who worked in over 100 degree temperatures for long hours each day fighting this fire.
